The most frequently seen raw material for pellet mill is forestry waste and furniture factory wastes. These wastes are often pulverized into small particles sawdust.

However, for sawdust with different hardness (some are softwood, some are hardwood), the suitable pellet mill is different.

But how to know whether your raw material is softwood or hardwood?

Softwood and hardwood is a relative concept.

• Softwood has soft texture, relatively low density, and its wood grain is not apparent. Therefore softwood is easy to be cut or chipped. The most commonly seen softwood includes red pine, white pine, mongolica, scales spruce, basswood, cypress, etc.

• Hardwood is denser, therefore harder. They often have dense wooden structure. Usually these hardwoods are very heavy but with good wood grain. They are excellent material for furniture making. The common seen hardwood includes beech, walnut, yellow pineapple, camphorwood, alder (black alder), Chinese catalpa wood, nanmu, northeast China ash, schima superba, locust, acer mono, teak, Bubinga, rosewood, meranti, oak, American poplar wood, peach wood, hard maple, red alder, etc.
