Grass is the most common seen kind of biomasses in our daily life. We can see it in the fields, in the wild, in the garden, or lawns. Some grasses are perennial, but most are annual. Usually grasses have extremely vitality and grown fast. As a result, they shall be clipped or weeded frequently. However, the grass already been cut is in fact not a kind of waste. It can be made into fuel pellets by grass pelletizer machine. (Some may use the grass to produce feed pellets.)

Grass pellet fuel VS fossil fuel

• It takes 70 DAYS to grow a crop of grass for making pellets fuel; but it takes 70 MILLION YEARS to grow a crop of fossil fuel.
• Grass pellets are environmental-friendly. It does not release harmful gas to the atmosphere. But fossil fuel like coal will release SO2 and large amount of CO2 that causes global warming.
• The pelletizing of grass is much cheaper than using fossil fuels.

How to make pellets with grass pellet machine?

For the pelletizing of grass, the process is the same with other raw materials.

1. Crushing:

Since grasses are usually soft and long but slim, they shall be crushed by hammer mill. The hammer mill can crush the grass into 2, 3, 4, 5mm or even larger sizes depending on the grass characters and pelletizing requirement.

2. Drying:

Wet grasses usually contain too much moisture, so they need to be dried before pelletizing. (If the grass is dry, i.e. contains 8-12% moisture, drying step is unnecessary.) The dryer is efficient in decreasing moisture for biomass.

3. Pelletizing:

For small scale production (50-400kg/h), we suggest small grass pellet machine. There are mainly 2 types of small pellet machines: D-type and R-type. For processing grass, we advise the D-type with lower price, since it is enough for pelletizing grass. Also, you can choose various power sources: electric motor, diesel engine, and PTO or gasoline engine.

But for large scale production (500-2000kg/h), we suggest the large grass pellet machine with ring die. The large pellet machine can only be driven by 3phase industrial electric motor.

Both the small and large pelletizer machines are excellent in making grass pellets.

4. Grass pellets cooling:

When pellets get out from the pellet machine, they are often very hot. So, for increasing production efficiency, a cooler is usually adopted by pellet manufacturers. The pellet cooler is highly efficient in decreasing pellets temperature.

5. Grass pellets packing or storage:

After cooling, the pellets can be packed or stored.

Tips on buying grass pelletizer machine

Although you choose the pellet machine to make grass pellets, you are in fact able to make pellets from other biomasses like sawdust, straw, peanut shell, etc. The only difference is the pellet machine die plate. So, if you have other kinds of raw materials, you just need to buy one machine with several different dies for your raw materials. this can save you a lot of money!
